Wrist Pain with Push Ups/ Straight Arm Planks

Many of us are working out at home or with minimal gym equipment and have turned to body weight resistance exercises. If you are experiencing wrist pain with push ups and straight arm planks, it may be caused by stress associated with loaded wrist extension.

To get rid of wrist pain with push ups, try some of these:

  1. Alter your position during the push up: Try to keep your wrist in more neutral position. How? Give these a shot: -- Do a push up holding onto dumbbells -- Try a push up on closed fists -- Place a towel under the heel of your hand Reduce the amount of extension at the wrist by shifting your body weight towards your feet. **Be careful not to dip with your low back!

  2. Massage the inside of your forearm.

  3. Work on your wrist mobility.

  4. If all else fails, switch to chest press to target similar muscle groups with less demand on the wrist!
