Rotator Cuff

The rotator cuff is a common topic of conversation when it comes to shoulder pain. Let’s learn a little about it:

The rotator cuff is comprised for 4 muscles.

The primary role of the cuff is to provide stability through force couples and help aid in moving the shoulder through range of motion.

The cuff degenerates naturally with increasing age

Pathology/tears of the cuff can vary in size and severity and do not always need to be repaired.

Physical therapy can help reduce pain, increase range of motion, and improve function of the shoulder in those with rotator cuff tears.

The photo above demonstrates a simple way to active the poster rotator cuff. Grab a theraband or light weights. Keep elbows by your side and palms up. Rotate your forearms our just a bit. Hold 5-10 seconds and do as many as you like!
